How To Clean Your Jewellery at Home

Using a small container (such as a mug or small bowl), add a splash of household cloudy ammonia, a small amount of liquid dishwashing detergent and combine with warm water. Carefully submerge the jewellery and allow to soak for 20-30 minutes. Use a baby’s toothbrush to gently scrub away any dirt from around the gemstones if needed. Rinse well under clean water. Pat dry using a soft towel or some tissue paper.

This solution can only be used on gold and silver jewellery that has the following gemstones:

• Diamonds
• Rubies
• Sapphires

Do not use this solution on your jewellery if you are unsure what the gemstone is or if it is one of the following:

• Pearl
• Opal
• Coral
• Turquoise
• Malachite
• Lapis Lazuli
• Tanzanite
• Emerald
• Onyx

Jewellery with the above gemstones, organic materials (leather, wood etc.) and gemstones or materials that you are unsure about should be taken back to your jeweller for cleaning.

When in doubt, don’t clean your jewellery yourself. Take it to your local, reputable jewellery store for cleaning.
